Refractive Lens Surgery
Lens implant surgery replaces the natural lens of the eye with an artificial lens (some providers have coined their own terms for the procedure such as Clarivu™ * – a trademark of Optegra Ltd).
These specially engineered lenses provide focussing power to suit the individual, and the procedure is done to reduce reliance on glasses.
It has the best safety profile of any surgery carried out in the NHS with a 99% success rate.
The procedure usually takes about 10-15 minutes to do under a local anaesthetic, and is not painful. Your face and eye are protected during the surgery so you can not see what is taking place. There is usually a swift recovery of vision.
